Scripture Focus:

“After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!” Mark 1:14-15.

Prayer Focus:

This week we are focusing on the life of the church. Please also pray for Mark and Hilary and Mike and Paula as both families get used to life with new babies.

This is Our Week of Prayer and Praise

We will be having a week of prayer for the life of the church. Please check the enclosed leaflet to see what areas of church life you would like to pray for specifically during the week on your own. We will be meeting on the evening of the 6th September at 8pm at the church for a time of prayer and praise – all welcome. Please note that food will not be served.

Early Morning Prayer Meetings

Early morning prayer meetings start again this week, and have moved to Thursday mornings, 7.15-8am. Everyone is welcome. This week we will be praying for our church and lives together.

Our new Youth Worker

Alanna will be starting work with us this week, on 7th September, and Emma will be leaving the following week. We would like to thank Emma for all her hard work over the last year with our young people.

Retreat Weekend, 13-15 October

Booking forms are available from the back of the church today for the Priory Street Retreat Weekend at the Christian Encounter Centre, Shaftsbury. The leaflet gives details of accommodation and costs. All booking forms must be returned to the church office by Sunday 17th September.

Aid Trip to Austria, 24 Nov - 1st Dec

There is an opportunity for six people to join the team taking aid for refugees to the Oasis Centre in Vienna. If you are interested in joining the team, please speak to Louise in the first instance.

Coats!

There are a lot of coats and sweaters that have been left on the coat pegs over the summer. Please check to see if any belong to you as we are only keeping them until Sunday 10th September. After that we will be removing them permanently.

Housegroups

Housegroups will start up again in the week beginning 11th September. If you are not already a member of a group, why not have a chat to Graham this week about joining one.

Arnolds Mead – the final notice!

After 5½ months and a last minute scramble, (including an unexpected water leak), the refurbishment of 16 Arnolds Mead was finally completed at 10.30pm Thursday 24th August and the keys were handed over to the tenant the following day.

A count through the directory reveals nearly 50 people have been involved! The leadership would like to say A BIG THANK YOU to all of you, particularly the plus/minus ten people who either had an ongoing involvement from the outset, or who gave long lengths of their time to complete particular tasks. We had professional help only to fit some carpet. All help, however seemingly minor, was much appreciated.

Anyone who visited the house in its final stages agrees the finished product looks superb, and the tenants were extremely pleased.

Now it’s over, one or two items surplus to requirements are offered for sale, including:

§ New gas fire, Cotswold stone mantel, marble surround and hearth (original reduced price £90)

§ New wash-hand basin – can be used as semi recessed over a base unit (original price around £80)

§ Second-hand gas cooker.

§ Make us a reasonable offer for any of these.

Also: Kitchen base unit 600mm wide and an assortment of shelves and other bits, free to a good home. These are all on display in the hall (cooker in middle room).

Coming up soon…

There will be an Alpha supper on Monday 25th September, 7.30 pm, with a course starting after 9th October. Please be praying for the preparation and planning and also be thinking about who you will be inviting!
